    Description

This original vintage poster, featuring a magical image of Crater Lake National Park by world renowned photo artist Ansel Adams, was created for Standard Oil's promotional "See Your West" road travel program. From 1938-48, Standard gave these collectible photographic images to filling station customers free of charge. A detailed description of the featured scenic destination is written on the back of each one, as well as an abbreviated log of the photographer's particular photomaking process (see photos).
These documents mark a key point in US history, when road trips became popular American family vacations, with landmarks of our nation’s breathtaking natural beauty highly anticipated stopovers.
Ansel Adams processed relatively few color photos, only about 3500, making this a rare and unusual example of his work.
